Searching while Modeling the Environment for Time-critical Rescues (SMoRes)
An ambitious, state-of-the-art aerial robotics platform designed to safeguard the lives of our courageous firefighters. This innovative system autonomously navigates and maps indoor environments engulfed in flames, overcoming severe perceptual challenges such as smoke and darkness.
This is a capstone project developed as a part of my Master’s degree at Carnegie Mellon University. Inspired by the courage and commitment of firefighters worldwide, we are leveraging the latest advancements in aerial robotics to make rescues safer and more efficient. Our project focuses on building an autonomous first responder drone capable of scouting and mapping the indoor environment of a building on fire-tracing a safe and efficient route for rescue before firefighters move in. This technology aims to provide real-time situational awareness in hazardous, smoke-filled environments, helping first responders allocate resources and strategize effectively, ultimately minimizing risks to their lives.
